Spring is the time for skin boot camps! After the drying and sluggish effects of winter there is nothing better than kick-starting the social season with a skin boot camp.
You can send you skin to boot camp in many ways. As the name suggests, it is all about revving up or doing something different to stimulate positive results in your skin. Performing the same routine continually can cause your skin to become complacent. When this happens we often feel that it means that our products are no longer working for us. Actually they are just waiting for the change so they can spring into full functionality again. It is not that products stop working; it is more that our lifestyles and the environment have negatively affected our skin’s function because we haven’t addressed them.
Don’t throw out your routine—or your skincare products—just get into boot camps!
Here is a run-down of our favourite boot camps:
Cellular Power Infusion: This is a 35-day skin revamp. The Cellular Power Infusion treatment from the skin experts at La Prairie improves the skin’s function and viability from within to ensure your healthiest skin on the outside. This treatment improves cell function to repair and rejuvenate, making your skin appear more vibrant, plump and youthful.
How to: Use two pipettes morning and night before your normal routine until they are finished.
Daily Skin Resurfacers: This is 32-day skin-lifting boot camp. Active hydroxy acids increase cell turnover to improve your skin’s texture, reduce congestion and minimise the appearance of enlarged pores, lines and wrinkles. This treatment really helps to purge your skin of debris and instil a visible revitalisation.
How to: Wipe one finger puppet infused with the active ingredients over your skin after cleansing and before applying other products.
LED: Increase your skin-treatment results by adding an LED (Light-Emitting Diode) treatment. This simple upgrade utilises light therapies to stimulate the sub-culture of the skin. With just one treatment you can experience increased firming, reduced pigmentation and, if required, stabilised oil production.
Downtime: Minimal, if any. Some people may have a mild pinkness for 30 minutes after treatment.
IPL: You can choose to have one or a series of these treatments. IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is incredibly powerful for reducing pigmentation at the site of its formation. The light also stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, improving your skin’s firmness and tautness. IPL treatment can also be used to control and eliminate damaged facial capillaries.
Downtime: Possible post-treatment effects of pinkness and heat in the skin to a crusting of pigmentation may last five to seven days.
Full Face IPL $220; with Facial $180 (IPL consultation compulsory)
Swiss Cellular White Intensive Illuminating Mask: Lighten and brighten your skin with this illuminating sheet mask from La Prairie. Your therapist can simply substitute the sheet mask for a cream mask when performing your facial.
ProPower Peel: When I wrote this article, way back in June, I really didn’t know a lot about this treatment, except that it can be tailored and added to any facial treatment. It is set to launch in September 2018, when this issue is due to be released. Check your inbox for information you have already received or will receive shortly. I am excited to have been personally invited by Dermalogica to use this treatment prior to its launch to provide them with feedback.
P.S. There is a lot happening on the Dermalogica front. Stay tuned for even more news.
